Lumetta’s Lighting Brightens Freedom House Alzheimer’s Care

LWDA Design Architects, a firm specializing in Architecture and Interior Design for healthcare, rehabilitation, senior living, and care, recently completed a sizeable renovation of the Blue Skies Texas Freedom House Alzheimer’s Care.

The San Antonio assisted living memory care residence is home to people living with Alzheimer’s and other dementias. The redesign included the neighborhood commons, activity room, living and dining areas, lobby, chapel, and kitchens.

LWDA is known for taking on architectural projects that improve the quality of life at every level in local communities. The design agency set out to create an atmosphere that would allow for better sleeping as well as the lessening of negative behaviors that are many times associated with Dementia.

Lumetta’s luminaires were the preferred choice for a lighting solution to illuminate the areas. The fixtures were equipped to harness BIOS circadian lighting. BIOS, also utilized by NASA, infuses a blue lighting which mimics the temperature and intensity of sunlight and aids in the optimization of circadian rhythm, allowing people to be more alert and productive during the day. During the evening, the blue light ceases and as a result triggers the body to create melatonin, preparing the body for sleep.

Lumetta is proud to be part of this award-winning design. The custom created luminaires chosen to be the focal points in the infrastructure included Lumetta’s 34” Custom Drum Pendants, 18” and 23” Custom Surface Mount Drums, 23” and 34” Custom L2 Drum Pendants, and 6” x 24” Custom Acrylic Lite Pendants. This wide selection of spectacular fixtures, most of which were fitted with our washable antimicrobial Lumenate® diffusers made the environment come alive with shape, color, and illumination.

Lumetta’s innovative lighting solutions are handmade and of the highest quality. Our team of lighting engineers and design experts work in all commercial sectors, including medical, hospitality, education, government, retail, office, and transport hubs, ensuring complete satisfaction and the best quality and professional service for all your lighting needs. We are committed to providing superior customer service and product performance.

Lumetta’s fixtures are recognized for being manufactured with our proprietary Lumenate®, a material designed and used exclusively for our luminaire shades. Lumenate® is washable, fade resistant; antimicrobial, and designed to bringout vibrant colors, hues, and patterns. It is fully customizable to match colors and display custom graphics and imagery.

Lumetta’s Colorful Custom Flush Mounted Fixtures Light the Way for Patients, Visitors and Staff at Children’s Hospital Colorado North Campus

Broomfield’s Children’s Hospital Colorado North Campus recently completed a major renovation and expansion of their existing 47,000-sf multi-specialty clinic, urgent care, and surgery center and transformed it into a 236,000-sf pediatric hospital with over 120,000-sf of multi-specialty outpatient care.

The project included the construction of a new medical office building and Inpatient floor along with an expansion to the Imaging, Emergency, and Urgent Care departments. Designed to accommodate community educational programs and inspired by Colorado’s great outdoors, each floor offers a unique color and animal theme, which helps visitors of any age navigate their surroundings.

Design Studio Blue, LLC, a Denver-based, nationally recognized interior design firm specializing in commercial and wellness environments, was commissioned to work on the expansion project. The firm provided interior design services and consulted with the furniture, art, and graphic design team members. The whimsical interior design emphasized the bright colors and playful animals found in Colorado.

Lumetta was contracted to build Custom Surface Mount fixtures to meet the specific application throughout the healthcare setting. The diffuser color selections were to be bright and cheery to complement the colorful animal theme. The colors chosen to illuminate the environment included D57 Apple, D171 Aquamarine, and D175 Iris (shown).

The elegant custom light fixtures are each surrounded by acrylic framework and include an antimicrobial and washable Lumenate® diffuser—a necessity for hospitals and healthcare providers. The fixtures exude a soft, warm, ambient glow and cast even light distribution while meeting functional as well as design requirements.

With its unrivaled and progressive style and two-toned coloration of diffuser and framework, our custom lighting solution illuminates in an ultra-contemporary manner and can be leveraged in a variety of interior designs. These colorful ceiling fixtures have been created to enhance and complement any decor with their up-to-the-minute appearance.

Opened in October 2020 on the Rochester General Hospital campus, the Sands-Constellation Center for Critical Care is a 7-story, 312,000-square-foot structure that is home to visionary innovation with breakthrough technology and equipment. It’s brought to life by exceptional care teams who are trained in providing the highest level of care for those who need it most.

With a new surgical care center, women’s health and newborn care suites focused on helping families grow and 36 private patient rooms per floor in their medical, surgical and oncology care areas, they’re enhancing lives and preserving health in a place built for the future of healthcare as well as their community.

The design team collaborated on the conception of the interior décor and lighting options for the four new family lounges, and Architect Clark Patterson Lee Rochester specified Lumetta’s highly regarded 23” surface mounted drum pendants. The luminaires were chosen in direct response to Lumetta’s reputation within the lighting industry as well as the pendant’s proficiency in dispersing up and down lighting delicately and exquisitely, enveloping the surroundings in a warm and peaceful atmosphere.

By utilizing Lumetta’s clean-lined drum pendants, fashioned from our proprietary antimicrobial Lumenate®, the designers were able to play up the soft amber hue and create the perfect addition to blanket the space. The execution of the project allowed for a calm ambient light setting that met the comfort of patients and their families.

East Central Regional Hospital’s Cafeteria:
Once in a Blue Moon Interior Lighting Design with Lumetta’s Colorful L2 Tapers

“Good things are associated with blue, like clear days. Just the word ‘blue’ in the singular is full of optimism and positive connotation to most people.” ― David Carson, American Art Director

East Central Regional Hospital, located in Georgia, is a two-campus facility, providing services for people living with developmental disabilities in a skilled nursing setting.

The medical facility’s dining area recently experienced a major renovation and the transformation, which now includes 180 indoor dining seats and serves 460 patients and staff daily, is nothing short of stunning. The lighting was to be an integral part of the new design and for this reason Lumetta’s L2 Taper lighting was specified to give the surroundings an ethereal atmosphere.

Lumetta’s L2 lighting collection is highly regarded as it offers full creative expression and allows you to pair complementary or contrasting interior and exterior Lumenate® shades for an eye-catching combination. Lumenate® is a material used for our diffusers and shades which is antimicrobial and washable–crucial requirements in hospital and other healthcare facilities’ lighting fixture specifications.

The lighting acts as both illumination and guide. The color and design follow the curves of the ceiling design to navigate users through the space. The larger brightly colored fixtures fill the generous space’s volume and draw the user’s eye upward. Designers chose blue and green to create a fresh, welcoming feeling for both staff and patients, as well as to play off the other finishes in the space. These areas are now brighter, happier, more functional rooms thanks to the Interiors Department at Dickinson Architects and Lumetta’s magical luminaires.

Rogers Behavioral Health recently completed a renovation and expansion of its main campus in Oconomowoc, Wisconsin to better serve patients and their families.

Lumetta’s ultra-modern Echo luminaires were chosen to highlight the main campus lobby and sections of the residential areas of the OCD, Anxiety, and Depression Center for adolescent care. The new lobby pictured here creates a positive first impression for families and visitors.

Residential care settings offer children, teens, and adults treatment in a tranquil setting away from the stresses of daily life. Patients receive specialized care for OCD and anxiety, eating disorders, depression and other mood disorders, trauma, and PTSD, as well as a medication-assisted withdrawal management for alcohol and opioid addiction.

Echo is a preferred luminaire for its masterful combination of projection of light, geometry, and pattern—suggesting movement and evoking design in a contemporary way. Designers have always delighted in choosing the customizable Echo for its dramatic use of multiple patterns, colors, and finishes, allowing for many combinations and options to create dramatic and coordinated interiors.

The final installation was nothing short of magical—the soothing playful lighting enhanced and soothed the environment and made for a comfortable setting for patients, their families, and Rogers staff.

IKM Architecture

LaFace & McGovern recently worked with IKM Architecture and Lovorn Engineering (now Claitman Engineering Services) on the design of an integral addition to the St. Clair Health campus in Pittsburgh, PA. The grand opening of The Dunlap Family Outpatient Center was the largest construction project in St. Clair’s history.

IKM executed the multi-phase renovation over three years without any interruption of service. Common design threads tie The Dunlap Family Outpatient Center at Oxford Drive together aesthetically while creating separate branding identities for each suite.

The guiding principle throughout the building was to create a superior patient experience that would support the growing healthcare needs of Pittsburgh’s South Hills residents.

The DFOCOD features 44 striking Lumetta Drum fixtures, in both pendant and flush-mounted design, throughout their waiting room areas. These drums anchor the spaces–creating a beautiful effect and softening the feel of the waiting rooms. With comfortable chairs and a soft muted palette, the setting immediately puts visitors at ease. The aesthetics, from color schemes to the furniture and lighting, are designed to help reduce stress levels for patients, their families, and the hospital staff.

The 280,000 sf, six-story facility is filled with state-of-the-art technology, medical advancements, and expertise. St. Clair Hospital ACC is a wonderful representation of a collaboration between Lumetta and LaFace & McGovern. This partnership allows us to bring enhancements and modernize campus infrastructure to our region’s healthcare facilities and surrounding communities.

Gateway Pediatric Dentistry, in St. Albert, Alberta, CA, recently decided to brighten up their third location’s office space and make it even more child friendly. Wow Lighting and Controls Inc. specified Lumetta to throw some light on the subject.

The illumination of the children’s play area with Lumetta’s large scale Shadow Drums added a punch of color and helped to visually lower the ceiling for the clinic’s smaller patients. Lumetta’s Shadow Drums are highly desirable for their exceptional quality and craftmanship, and their appeal of playing on double layers of opaque and transparent shades–creating vivid yet subtle lighting.

Lumetta’s Custom L2 Pendant with contrasting abstract inner shade imagery was a natural choice to add color to the space while keeping with a classic shade shape. The colorful inner graphics make for a delightful surprise for the young and “young-at-heart” and can be custom designed to any color or pattern for whimsy or drama. The complementary interior and exterior shades are an eye-catching combination.

Lumetta’s luminaires are designed and manufactured using our exclusive Lumenate®, a washable, antimicrobial diffuser that aids in preventing the spread of bacteria and viruses. Check out all of Lumetta’s customizable lighting solutions to create your own kind of magic.

Jennifer Buchanan Interior Design

Westwind Dental, a new contemporary dental clinic inspired loosely by the comforts of hospitality, is situated on the edge of the fast-growing family community of Spruce Grove, Alberta, Canada.

The owners wanted to create a practice that was comfortable for both patients and staff, yet still maintained an ease of everyday function. It was important to the vision of the clinic to incorporate other sensory comforts such as heated concrete floors, four fireplaces, custom plaster wall features, quartz countertops, adjusted color temperature lighting within support areas, automated window coverings to reduce glare, and zoned heating and ventilation. These features were integrated into the layout to create a clinic that would be durable for the day to day wear of a commercial space.

The company hired Jennifer Buchanan Interior Design, an award-winning, full-service interior design firm specializing in dental clinic, healthcare, and corporate office design, to execute the core design of the practice. JBID was able to provide valuable design strategy and business consultation to enhance the clinic’s space.* The agency chose to incorporate live edge wood slabs along the reception desk to balance the stone and plaster within the area, thereby enhancing the warmth of the natural wood.

Lumetta was specified by Wow Lighting Inc. to illuminate the space with our 42” Shadow Drum Pendants; utilizing our inner diffuser color D149-Slate and our D921-Trans Cool as the outer shade. The Shadow Drum Pendants were the perfect choice for the ambient lighting solution and beautifully complemented the temperature and the juxtaposition of the cold stone and warm wood elements.

Lumetta’s Shadow Drums are highly desirable for their exceptional quality and craftmanship, and their appeal of playing on double layers of opaque and transparent shades, creating vivid yet subtle lighting. Built with welded steel and aluminum and our exclusive antimicrobial and washable TransLumenate® and Lumenate® diffusers, these luminaires forge a love for natural shapes that combine functional form and aesthetics, fitting perfectly in any 21st century décor.

*The Westwind Dental office interior design project won the 2020 Oral Health Magazine Award.

St. Louis Arc, a healthcare facility providing high-quality services, family support, and advocacy to people with intellectual and developmental disabilities is located in Creve Couer, MO.

The non-profit organization determined it was time to renovate and made the decision to retrofit their Office and Community Center into an all-inclusive space that would empower the organizations’ growing population. A prerequisite of the retrofit was that the space be able to support a person-centered, coordinated care approach through smaller group settings with meaningful activities for their growing and aging population.

The agency hired Architect and Interior Design team Oculus, Inc. to upgrade their offices to a bright and modern environment.

Lighting was the main concern when it came to the transformation of the space. Softer illumination levels of light were diffused throughout the space with the use of high ceiling fixtures, recessed task and area lighting, and pendant lighting to create scale. The agency specified 2 of Lumetta’s highly regarded LED, low VOC 23” Drum Pendants with D 183 Whitewash Lumenate® diffusers for ambient lighting in front of the large TV, creating a warm and inviting environment for clients and their families to sit together.

The multi-functional space has now become a very popular setting and offers learning and support services for any seniors with intellectual or developmental disabilities in the St. Louis area.

Prairie Lakes HealthCare in Watertown, SD was looking to update and modernize their reception, lunch, and conversation areas and to better utilize their existing space. Lighting was given a top priority, not only for the sake of practicality, but also for aesthetic effects. The ambient lighting would serve as both a welcoming and comforting atmosphere for patients and visitors alike. The soft lighting would also give a feel of stability and permanency to the facilities. Ultimately, the hospital chose Lumetta to design and fabricate the fixtures for each of the locations.

The Palindrome pendant lighting that hangs directly over the reception area, was chosen and installed to give a warm and welcoming appeal as people entered the building. The Echo pendants were placed in a small eat-in area, making for an inviting and cozy place to sit, chat and have a coffee. Finally, the L2 pendants were utilized over a seating area in the corridors, where noise reduction was necessary. The corridor areas also included rugs and room dividers that were installed to allow for a semi-private seating area for families. These seating areas made it possible for family members to gather and discuss personal matters amid the bustling within the hospital.

The successful lighting installation for these three areas brought about a sense of ease and well-being to a facility that would greatly benefit from the soothing effects of the beautiful illumination.

Chiang | O’Brien Architects

With a focus on health and wellness services, Hamilton College selected Chiang | O’Brien Architects to design a functional space that addressed the growing demand for more integrated physical and mental health services from a single facility. The college proceeded with a new, stand-alone facility located in central campus, hosting various offices and functional rooms that serve the purpose.  Chiang | O’Brien’s Megan Walker, Associate, and Spencer Haynsworth Woodcock, Marketing Director, illuminates on the role lighting fixtures played on realizing this vision:

Lighting was a very important component. The vision for the interior was to provide welcoming and inviting spaces with clean and minimal furnishings, plus lighting with accents of color to give a warm, “living room” atmosphere.

Lumetta’s Shadow Series was chosen for the two main open stairs and counselor offices, while shallow drums made it to the group rooms.

At the main open stairs that connect the two levels, a cluster of three columnar fixtures–  27” Shadow Cylinder pendants P2091 with D922 Trans Grid TransLumenate® (outside) and D50 Chartreuse Metallic Lumenate® (inside)–  were used to help emphasize the volume of the space. These were mounted at different heights to provide a sculptural and ethereal feel.

The group rooms  feature shallow drum pendants coming in diameters of 34” OD and a custom 24” OD, relative to the size of each room. P53408 is wrapped in D148 Mist Weave Lumenate®, white acrylic top and bottom lenses and the custom version has D183 Whitewash Earth Lumenate® with bottom etched white acrylic lens.
