Design Build

Lumetta collaborated with Design Build to create custom Acoustic Box pendant lighting for the newly built Wood Building, a 49,000-square-foot engineering classroom located on the Johnston Community College main campus in Smithfield, North Carolina.

Installed in the building’s lobby, these 48” x 48” x 12” luminaires feature our Linear Acoustic shades in D819 AC Pepper. The geometric design complements the architectural style, harmonizing beautifully with the grid-like windows to enhance the space’s modern aesthetic.

Horace Mann Hall, home to the Feinstein School of Education and Human Development at Rhode Island College, was recently renovated to provide a more functional and inviting space for students and staff.

The renovation included a wing featuring six classrooms and three seminar rooms; bright and spacious student common areas; a three-story addition for offices; new roof, elevator and windows; and electrical, plumbing and network technology upgrades.

A combination of the dichroic film applied to the windows and Lumetta’s Modified Shadow Drum 48” Pendants with TransLumenate®, D920 Trans Warm, and Lumenate® D76 Amber shades create a prismatic look to the space.

Lumetta helps you achieve brilliant and highly specialized lighting across your space with endless possibilities. The Shadow Collection and all our lighting solutions are designed and manufactured in the USA using only the best design, engineering, and craftsmanship.

Lumetta’s Acoustic Drum Pendant Lighting Instituted at NSC’s Innovative Training Environment for Next-Gen Teachers

The new Glenn & Ande Christenson School of Education Building located on the campus of Nevada State College in Henderson, NV, includes classrooms, hands-on learning spaces, labs, speech-language pathology areas, offices, and a state-of-the-art preschool with an innovative educational environment to train new preschool teachers and help alleviate Nevada’s teacher shortage.

The collaborating Design Team of Burke Construction and Carpenter Sellers Del Gatto Architects were asked to create an environment that through color and light would welcome both small children and college students. These “collision spaces” were designed along hallways, as the main lobby became the “living room”. Team rooms, a grad lounge, and cooperative spaces also fortified the main lobby, creating a welcoming atmosphere.

Lumetta’s Acoustic Drum Pendants were chosen to sublimely illuminate these interdependent spaces as our acoustic lighting is favored for its aesthetic beauty and functionality. Lumetta’s Acoustic Collection consists of drums, tapers, and linear shapes that pair illumination and design with sound dampening attributes. Noise levels and vibration are controlled while the synergy between the striking handcrafted luminaires and the superior acoustic features is greatly enhanced.

The project was awarded the 2021 Award of Merit, ENR, Southwest Best Projects – Higher Education Construction, and 2021 AIA – State/Regional Awards

YSU Finds Creative Inspiration in Lumetta’s Illumination of Seminar Room

Ohio’s Youngstown State University is a student-centered university, providing innovative lifelong learning opportunities that inspire individuals, enhance futures, and enrich lives.

The University recently remodeled their Kilcawley Center‘s Ohio Room (now designated the “Attorney Daniel L. Rossi Room”). The space offers an open floor plan that is perfect for seating up to 200 people for small seminars, banquets, and conferences.

The original venue was dark and slightly somber, therefore resident architect Summer Barker, who specializes in interior and sustainable design, was tasked with working within the limitations of the unusually low ceiling. Because Barker was unable to access this ceiling space, she opted for the installation of sixteen of Lumetta’s large 48” OD x 8” H Modified Drum Pendants to illuminate the space.

The fixtures utilized DL25 Celest Grey Design Lumenate® diffusers, influenced by the latest interior design and fashion trends. The pendant frames were finished in Power Coat White, with white acrylic top lenses and etched white acrylic bottom lenses. The specification of these large luminaires in juxtaposition with the low ceiling made for a bold and beautiful statement.

Because the lack of access into the ceiling made dimming difficult, it was decided that Lumetta’s LED lamping in conjunction with wireless Bluetooth controlled dimming would be the perfect solution to illuminate the multi-use room properly.

Lumetta was the manufacturer of choice for their fixture flexibility, ease of wireless dimming, and infinite Lumenate® and Design Lumenate® options, earmarking their products as the lighting solution that would address any concerns.

The project was extremely successful and the completed installation’s appeal and functionality were well received by the university’s faculty and students.

Lumetta’s Echo and Shadow Pendants are Central to The Flower Mound Public Library

The Flower Mound Public Library reopened after doubling in size to better meet the needs of the town’s growing population.

Just 20 years old, the library building systems needed updating, and the growth in the area created demand for expanded space and services.

Space added on the northern side (12,035 sf) and southern side (4,126 sf) nearly doubled the original library size and included a teen lounge, digital markers’ space, additional study rooms, and small group meeting rooms, as well as a children’s story time room and a quiet reading room.

Komatsu Architecture and Hossley Lighting and Power Solutions were contracted to work on the lighting design and quickly chose Lumetta’s Echo 33” Pendant as well as the Shadow Box 27” Pendant to illuminate the public library. These unique statement lighting solutions served as the focal points within the building—not only illuminating but creating a piece of art that has a contemporary flair.

The Echo pendant represents the eye-catching combination of light + geometry + pattern, creating an ultramodern look. The fixtures deliver both illumination and texture to the space suggesting subtle movement and delivering a close encounter with the art of light.

The Shadow luminaire offers the juxtaposition of a translucent shade layered over our propriety diffusing Lumenate® shade for vivid yet subtle lighting. Our dedicated research and development team has established a foundation of versatile materials that allow enormous design potential.

Menchaca Elementary School is a design-build project in Austin, Texas that opened in January 2020.

The 98,600-square-foot campus replaced a dark and badly ventilated aging campus, and evolved through an extensive process engaging teachers, parents, and students. One of the first design-build public K-12 schools in Austin, Menchaca Elementary School was originally conceived as a single building with interior circulation. However, with extensive community engagement, which included a Campus Architectural Team and current students, the design led to three separate buildings surrounding a courtyard brimming with oak trees.

Menchaca Principal Eliza Loyola describes the school as an “industrial modern campus with a lot of natural elements.” The exteriors are steel and gray, with a focus on nature around the campus.

The two main buildings are linked by covered walkways to a shared, two-story library and media center with makerspaces and quiet study areas. Teaming and collaboration spaces are conveniently located throughout the campus, and include four “learning villages”–groupings of studio spaces and meeting areas.

“The learning village is a really unique concept that Austin ISD is implementing,” stated LPA Design Director of K-12, Kate Mraw. “Each of the learning villages includes studios, collaboration space, and small group rooms, all with transparent or operable connections to each other, where students can create their own learning experiences.”

When the architectural designers established their specifications for Menchaca’s perfect lighting solutions, Lumetta’s L2 Tapered Acoustic Pendants were the product of choice. The cone shaped lights were selected for use throughout the school’s interconnecting hallways.

The juxtaposition of brightly colored antimicrobial Lumenate® interior diffusers, such as turquoise “Caribbean”, bright “Sunflower”, vibrant “Orange”, and mysterious “Pomegranate” against the aluminum exterior diffusers provides for an understated yet bold modern look and washes the space in a wide arc of light.

The pendants hold a universal aesthetic appeal and captivate the children with their wild and whimsical colors. As an added bonus, the fixtures also keep the noise level down with their sound absorbing acoustic felt outer shades. With the harmonious blend of form and function, Lumetta’s L2 Tapered Acoustic Pendants prove 1 + 1 equals 10!

Berkshire Elementary School Gives Lumetta A+ for Its Class Act Lighting Solutions

Baltimore County Public Schools, located in Baltimore, MD, planned to reconstruct their Berkshire Elementary School. They recently designed the facilities as a prototype school, complete with media center, cafeteria, gymnasium and general classrooms.

GWWO Architects, also in Baltimore, was contracted to conceptualize and develop a setting that would achieve LEED Silver Certification—meaning it must include overall sustainability, use water efficiently, minimize energy in the atmosphere, minimize (reuse or recycle) materials and resources, and improver indoor environmental quality of air and lighting. The project’s sustainable elements included geothermal heating and cooling, recycled and sustainable materials, daylighting, LED light fixtures, and water-efficient plumbing and appliances.

The architectural firm chose Lumetta and Potomac Lighting to design and fabricate the lighting solutions. GWWO was confident that Lumetta’s products were the right choice as previous lighting projects completed with the manufacturer had been met with great satisfaction.

Lumetta’s easily cleaned diffusers, quick lead times, smooth delivery and installation, and their beautiful, sustainable products made them the architectural firm’s preferred choice for the project. Potomac Lighting’s Principal President, Sue Noble, worked closely with GWWO to develop precise specifications for the fabrication and installation of Lumetta’s Taper Pendants and Drum Pendants, which guaranteed a lively, sustainable atmosphere.

Lanier Technical College the foremost workforce development resource in northeast Georgia, commands attention with its spectacular views of the campus, the adjacent Ramsey-Fraser Lake, and the surrounding foothills of the north Gainesville area. Entrances, terraces, and windows all share advantageous views of these assets.

When the university recently began the process of a very impressive and cutting-edge design overhaul of their 325,000 square-foot campus at their new Gainesville location, they chose prime design professional Pond, in association with Stevens & Wilkinson, to create a meaningful and impressive environment with their interior design, furnishings, and fixtures.

The project included the creation of a ballroom layout serving as a primary meeting venue that could also be sub-divided into smaller meeting rooms. The ballroom/meeting rooms had a combined seating capacity of 920 and also linked directly to the storage facility, support, and catering kitchen.

Lumetta was considered first and foremost as the lighting solution supplier for the job, engineering and manufacturing 36 elegant custom two-tiered Drums, 8 Xina Drum Pendants, and 8 matching Xina sconces, as well as 9 Silhouette sconces.

Each of the three families had a characteristic and specific look, however, because all of Lumetta’s collections gracefully complement each other, this installation, including beautiful amber lighting, offset and dramatically enhanced the organic look of the facilities.

Lanier Technical College was extremely pleased with the ambient lighting that was both striking and inviting for everyone who utilized the new space.

Beginning in 2016, Burnsville High School, located in Burnsville, MN began hosting students from grades 9-12. To accommodate this new wave of pupils and continue to provide the necessary education required to prepare over 2,500 students to be ready to enter the real world, new classrooms, flexible learning spaces, science rooms, activities space and more were added to the school.

Site demolition and other construction was required to accommodate this venture. Minneapolis architects ATS&R, a firm experienced in creating functional and sustainable academic environments, was brought in to design settings that would be adaptable to long term educational changes and allow accommodation of various learning styles.

The floor plan for a public area known as “The Commons” provided for a setting where students would experience an environment similar to being in college or workplace surroundings.

Lumetta was chosen to design and fabricate the lighting solution for this flexible learning area, which consisted of 3-story high ceilings and large, glazed, modern art deco windows flooding the space with natural sunlight. In keeping with the clean postmodernism style, Lumetta created massive 18” x 96” custom box pendants with glare-free and soft glowing luminous alabaster complexions and an art deco metal finish to integrate within the environment’s atmosphere.

The lighting installation was an enormous success and the fixtures were the perfect complement to the avant-garde architecture; thus proving that the combination of thoughtful high-end design and high-quality craftsmanship will create spectacular lighting solutions.

Chiang | O’Brien Architects

With a focus on health and wellness services, Hamilton College selected Chiang | O’Brien Architects to design a functional space that addressed the growing demand for more integrated physical and mental health services from a single facility. The college proceeded with a new, stand-alone facility located in central campus, hosting various offices and functional rooms that serve the purpose.  Chiang | O’Brien’s Megan Walker, Associate, and Spencer Haynsworth Woodcock, Marketing Director, illuminates on the role lighting fixtures played on realizing this vision:

Lighting was a very important component. The vision for the interior was to provide welcoming and inviting spaces with clean and minimal furnishings, plus lighting with accents of color to give a warm, “living room” atmosphere.

Lumetta’s Shadow Series was chosen for the two main open stairs and counselor offices, while shallow drums made it to the group rooms.

At the main open stairs that connect the two levels, a cluster of three columnar fixtures–  27” Shadow Cylinder pendants P2091 with D922 Trans Grid TransLumenate® (outside) and D50 Chartreuse Metallic Lumenate® (inside)–  were used to help emphasize the volume of the space. These were mounted at different heights to provide a sculptural and ethereal feel.

The group rooms  feature shallow drum pendants coming in diameters of 34” OD and a custom 24” OD, relative to the size of each room. P53408 is wrapped in D148 Mist Weave Lumenate®, white acrylic top and bottom lenses and the custom version has D183 Whitewash Earth Lumenate® with bottom etched white acrylic lens.
